Fluid Fire

If you go to California's Yosemite National Park this month, you might get the chance to witness a reddish gold waterfall. Here's how: At sunset, gaze up at the sheer east face of the rock formation known as El Capitan. There you will see what seems to be a vertical river of fire, also known as Horsetail Fall. I nominate this marvel to be your inspirational symbol for the coming weeks. According to my reading of the astrological omens, you will have the power to blend fire and water in novel ways. I encourage you to look at the photo here and imprint the image on your mind's eye. It will help unleash the subconscious forces you'll need to pull off your own natural wonder.

Because I Want A Better World

On February 6th 2012, The Zeitgeist Movement Israel will host a Global Awareness Event in Tel Aviv, Israel in the context of Human Sustainability and World Peace.

On the heels of what appears to be an accelerating intent for military intervention in Iran from the United States and its allies, along with the world's major powers rapidly increasing armament developments in the midst of growing social destabilization, resource depletion and economic breakdown, The Zeitgeist Movement, a worldwide sustainability advocacy group working without borders or countries will be conducting a conference on the increasingly important issues of global cooperation and the means to obtain peace and human prosperity for the long term.

A feature of the event will be a lecture conducted by Peter Joseph, founder of The Zeitgeist Movement, entitled "Defining Peace". This talk will examine the historical roots of war; its technical irrelevancy; the State's historical psychological coercion of mass appeal; the inherent exclusive benefits to the upper class and denigration of the lower class; the broad inefficiency of the State itself as a diversionary/business entity and its inherent conflict propensity; along with how the only way of achieving lasting human peace is through the dissolving of the Market System catalysts, the Ownership Class and the State entity itself.

This now sold out event will be streamed live online for free via Ustream: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/peter-joseph-live-on-z-fest-2012-tel-aviv-israel#events

Event Website: http://www.izm.org.il/

About: The Zeitgeist Movement is a global sustainability activist group working to bring the world together for the common goal of species sustainability before it is too late. It is a social movement, not a political one, with over 1100 chapters across nearly all countries. Divisive notions such as nations, governments, races, political parties, religions, creeds or class are non operational distinctions in the view of The Movement. Rather, we recognize the world as one system and the human species as a singular unit, sharing common habitat. Our overarching intent could be summarized as “the application of the scientific method for social concern.”

Presence

There is stillness

Accept Uncertainty

Focusing on worst-case scenarios won't keep bad things from happening. It will only keep us from enjoying the good things we have in the present.

to whom will I say goodbye?
where am I going and why?

8495 Strides

I'm on a table with needles in my feet, head, stomach and chest. She tells me my pulse on the surface is wiry, like a guitar string being plucked. When I leave, it's with the assignment of moving out of my mind, staying out of my mind, and being in my stomach instead. "Be in your belly," she says as she puts her hand on my stomach. "Life is a lot different down here."

Half an hour later I'm on a Precor USA elliptical cross trainer. Sixty minutes of cardio every other day. That's the drill. Eleven minutes in I can hear Jimmy Carter: "Stop talking and start sweating." I am. Today I'm on the cross-country program, skiing up and down a skyline of boxes and yellow lights. Sometimes I'm flying, sometimes I'm climbing through sludge, as if I'm on an alien world with stronger gravity.

I drop into my stomach and look for my core, my truth. I know it's here somewhere. Not sure where the lights are though. I wonder if I'm in a dark underground cavern, about to slip beneath the liquid surface of a burning chemical fire that boils the flesh from my bones. That doesn't happen. I enter my fourteen billion year old soul and discover something like taffy, gum or Silly Putty. It's elastic, stretching and rotating around an invisible axis as I pump out another cross-training revolution. It feels like a rope connected to an anchor adrift in a bottomless ocean. I stay there and decide this must be my core -- an island of nothing, floating in the glow of a golden sun no one can see.

The TV keeps trying to suck me back into my mind, then out of it through a plastic straw into the artificial dream. They're talking about politics and Facebook again and I don't care. I refuse. I defy. I imagine a barbell flying through the screen and landing in the lap of the commentator. "Stop talking and start sweating." The media does not dictate my reality or what I think about. Better to stay in my belly. I'm founding a new country. I'm raising a flag of sovereign self on an island of nothing. Life is different down here. While needles and guitar strings dance across the surface, I'm building an empire of love, progress and strength.

Soulless Creatures of Government

Corporations are not persons. Human beings are persons, and it is an affront to the inviolable dignity of our species that courts have created a legal fiction which forces people — human beings — to share fundamental, natural rights with soulless creatures of government. Worse still, while corporations and human beings share many of the same rights under the law, they clearly are not bound equally to the same codes of good conduct, decency and morality, and they are not held equally accountable for their sins. Indeed, it is truly ironic that the death penalty and hell are reserved only to natural persons.

Toward A New World

We can build an economy that does not destroy its natural support systems, a global community where the basic needs of all the Earth’s people are satisfied, and a world that will allow us to think of ourselves as civilized. This is entirely doable.

Magnetic Signature

When magma comes out of the earth, it has minerals in it. Some of those minerals are magnetic...iron has certain properties that make it polar in nature, so we have a magnetic field that exists around the earth, the magnetic north and south poles, as we call them. When you have magnetic material in a liquid, it has the freedom to orient itself to the direction of the poles. But of course, it does not stay magma: it freezes and becomes rock above the salt and the ocean floor. Therefore, if you take a sample of the ocean floor, carefully taking today's orientation, then measure the magnetic field of where the dipoles are pointing, you'll find that they are probably pointing somewhere different than where north is today.

Flying Through Lead

What he had once hoped for the Flock, he now gained for himself alone; he learned to fly, and was not sorry for the price that he had paid.

The same rule holds for us now, of course : we choose our next world through what we learn in this one. Learn nothing, and the next is the same as this one, all the same limitations and lead weights to overcome.

~ Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Resolution

I don't know anyone who makes New Year's resolutions, and I never hear anyone talk about having kept them. It's as if no one believes they can change for the better anymore, that even trying to is a waste of time because failure is guaranteed.

Not true.

If you resolve to break a bad habit,
visit a foreign country you've always dreamed of,
or learn to play a musical instrument, you can.

If you resolve to learn how to fly,
end a dysfunctional relationship
or move to a new place, you can.

If you resolve to save money,
exercise and eat right,
or meet the person of your dreams, you can.

Any thing you resolve to do, you can.

Among its many definitions, "resolve" is a musical action verb meaning "to progress from dissonance to consonance." In my mind this is symbolic of both the energy and purpose of the new year. Each of our lives is a composition, and if you resolve to create a beautiful, inspiring, adventurous symphony, you can.

In the words of Abraham Lincoln, "Determine that the thing can and shall be done, and then we shall find the way." Exactly. This is what New Year's Resolutions are all about.

Quiet Ice

traveling through new city time
I walk on wave shaped stone
enjoying empty space

cold air through my nose
exhaling moments and memories
on a final winter night

the fans arrive to open doors
and once again
 I find my place

not upon the ice
but in the heart of warrior youth
fighting for noble things
