Poet Tree

Poetry is a rich, full-bodied whistle,
cracked ice crunching in pails,
the night that numbs the leaf,
the duel of two nightingales,
the sweet pea that has run wild,
Creation's tears in shoulder blades.

The Wound

The wound is the place where the Light enters you.

~ Rumi

Wiccan Rede / Rule of Three

The Rule of Three is a religious tenet held by some Wiccans. It states that whatever energy a person puts out into the world, be it positive or negative, will be returned to that person three times.

For John

The eagle represents the transformation from youth to a place of courage and understanding of the connection between spirit and humans.

Only Once

At bottom, every man knows perfectly well that he is a unique being, only once on this earth; and by no extraordinary chance will such a marvelously picturesque piece of diversity in unity as he is, ever be put together a second time.

~ Friedrich Nietzsche, philosopher (1844-1900)

Let the drop of water that is you become a hundred mighty seas.

Ask Yourself Riveting Questions

by Rob Breszny

1. What is the most magnificent gift I can give to life in the
next three years?

2. How can I become more powerful in a way that's
safe and wise?

3. How can I cultivate my relationships so that they
thrive even as my life keeps changing?

4. What can I do that will help
me get all the love I need?

The Two Hungers

In Africa, they say there are two hungers, the lesser hunger and the greater hunger. The lesser hunger is for the things that sustain life, the goods and the services, and the money to pay for them, which we all need. The greater hunger is for an answer to the question “why?”, for some some understanding of what that life is for.

~ Charles Handy

Wealth obviously is not the good we seek, for the sole purpose it serves is to provide the means of getting something else. So far as that goes, the ends we have already mentioned [pleasure, virtue and honour] would have a better title to be considered the good, for they are to be desired for their own account.

Creator Beings

We are creator beings, every thought feeling and emotion we have programs the universe thereby defining our personal reality. We know ourselves to be actors, how many of us know we are the script writers as well? What do you think? How do you feel? Are you actively creating a reality of love?

Better For The Smile You Give

A cool friend showed up at the bar last night and we greeted each other like we always do -- "Greetings, Highlander." We talked, connected as human beings and listened to good music, as is our custom, and it was great. Again I was reminded that it's the depth and authenticity of relating to other people on a similar wavelength that is the great treasure of my life. The gold in my heart is spun into being from the magic fortress of allies around me. Before he left he said, "I feel re-energized." The feeling was mutual. For my fellow Highlanders and VS Protagonists, here's a gift from that space...

Joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift.
~ Albert Einstein

The greatest gift is a portion of thyself.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
~ Steve Prefontaine

My Planet Is Not For Sale

Do we on Earth have enough resources and technological understanding to create a society of such abundance that everything we have now could be available without a price-tag, and without the need for submission through employment?

Yes, we do. We have the resources and technology to enable this at a minimum, along with the ability to raise the standard of living so high that people in the future will look back at our civilization now and gawk at how primitive and immature our society was.

"Of good omen" ~ from Latin Auspicium ~ "Divination by observing the flight of birds" ~ performed by an Augur or Auspex, one of a group of ancient Roman religious officials charged with observing and interpreting omens to help guide the making of public decisions.

Love is a well in the wilderness where time watches over the wandering lightning.

~ Pablo Neruda

Thought gives off smoke to prove the existence of fire. The mystic sits within the burning.

~ Rumi

Don't Disown Yourself

People think it is a virtue to disown parts of themselves of which they disapprove. All they succeed in doing is to keep themselves stuck with those parts forever. They have cut off the only means of growth or transformation.

~ Nathaniel Branden

This Fish Will Fly

It is painful to face the self we know we have never had the integrity to honor and assert.

I see an invisible girl in the space between the trees. She says, "The hidden people aren't hidden to those of you who see."

We are all parts of one universe, true enough. We stand within an almost infinite network of relationships. Yet each of us is a single point of consciousness, a unique event, a private, unrepeatable world. This is the essence of our aloneness.

Moon lit silver linings
Gentle distant lightning
Journey through the atmosphere
Illuminating cloud and sky

Softly traveled moonbeams
tap the earth below
sparkling star
between outlined clouds
luminescent glow

infiltrates the senses
permeates the soul
gift from the heavens above
perfect love

Every aspect of Western culture needs a new code of ethics - a rational ethics - as a precondition of rebirth. ~ Ayn Rand

Do behold the King Sequoia! Behold! Behold! seems all I can say. Some time ago I left all for Sequoia and have been and am at his feet, fasting and praying for light, for is he not the greatest light in the woods, in the world? Where are such columns of sunshine, tangible, accessible, terrestrialized?
~ John Muir, 1870

The same ethical light that made the Sequoias is in us. Humans can be columns of sunshine too. Come on, everybody. It's time. ~ Will

The Artist

It's a new day
There's nothing to do
Except kill my own death

It was a bad night
Nobody's fault but my own
Crash and burn
For the thousandth time
These hands still doing the same shit
Shaking my head in the dark
Just sitting here feeling bad
Don't understand why I can't get out

Home Is Where The Heart Is

Happy is how we should be
Realize that we are wealthy
Living here on this earth
Enjoy what it's worth

Anger left behind you
Just don't let it find you
Love will not remain
As long as you complain

It's A Beautiful Life

I'm gonna take you to a place
I've never been before
O yeah
I'm gonna take you in my arms
And fly away with you tonight

~ Ace of Base

Rules of the Star Field Road

Preserve what is good

Reform what is in need

Overthrow what is corrupt

Be a visionary dreamer that does life differently

Avoid the seductive undercurrents of other people's expectations and projections

Be about freedom and authentic soul expression

Don't settle for less

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.

Find Your Own Frontier

Somewhere there's a treasure
that has no value to anyone but you,
 and a secret that's meaningless
to everyone except you,
and a frontier that harbors a revelation
only you would know how to exploit.

Why not go in search of those things?

The Gospel According To Quark

As consort to an obscure but dazzling goddess named "Skayshe," and in honor of tonight's beautiful Buck Moon, I have been instructed to pass on the following recommendation from a man driving a green Honda Element with a witch on a broom dangling from its interior mirror: For the next 47 hours, you are to make bountiful buck naked love to your own sub-atomic particles. If the experience doesn't suck like a levitating hummingbird on magic red sugar water, get on anti-top and lovingly spank your own grinning green anti-bottom. By Sunday afternoon your liberated psyche will be growing like a velvet-covered antler from the forehead of a chevrotain in the rain forests of central Africa, where friendly purple lightning showers you with megajoules of benevolent ions in a sanctuary run by a kind young musical wizard who resembles the positronic offspring of Nikola Tesla and John Denver.

The world has rarely treated happiness as a state worthy of serious respect. And yet, if we see someone who, in spite of life’s adversities, is happy a good deal of the time, we should recognize that we are looking at a spiritual achievement -- and one worth aspiring to.

~ Nathaniel Branden

Autonomous lovers respect their partners need to follow his or her own destiny, to be alone sometimes, to be preoccupied sometimes, not to be thinking about the relationship sometimes, but rather about other vital matters that may not even involve the partner in any direct sense, such as work, personal unfolding and evolution, personal developmental needs. Give this freedom to yourself as well as to the person you love.

~ Nathaniel Branden

Don't Make Assumptions

Find the courage to ask questions and express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

Hualapai Sky

My first flight in the U.S. is sure to be one of the most memorable experiences in my life, not only for the sheer beauty of the Grand Canyon, but the honor to fly in sacred Native American lands. Thank you Mother Nature and the Hualapai Tribe for making my lifelong dreams come true.

~ Yves Rossy

Success in the Year 1904

He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has enjoyed the trust of pure women, the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it, whether an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who has always looked for the best in others and given them the best he had; whose memory a benediction.

~ Bessie Anderson Stanley, 1904

Hear This Heart Before It Dies

I am not ashamed to love you
When this life is over
And nothing else matters
This is what you will remember
That I was here
That I felt for you with all my heart
I know it wasn't what you wanted
But nonetheless I gave my all

The Changeless Constant

Our "I," our ego, our deepest self, is our faculty of awareness, our ability to think. Across a lifetime, our knowledge grows, our convictions may change, our emotions come and go; but that which knows, judges, and feels -- that is the changeless constant within us.

~ Nathaniel Branden

Raise The Sails

There comes a time in life
when there is nothing else to do
but to go your own way.
A time to follow your dreams.
A time to raise the sails of your
own beliefs.

Truth, the Sonorous Hammer

It is not always needful for truth to take a definite shape. It is enough if it hovers about us like a spirit and produces harmony; if it is wafted through the air like the sound of a bell, grave and kindly.

~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Flight 140

I fly with the moon
and wind in my ears
blue sky sun burns my white knees pink

orange yellow glasses
framed in black
so freedom doesn't burn out my eyes

cool breeze flying
in shorts and a t-shirt
this is the life for me

Take The Risk

To be alive is the biggest fear humans have. Death is not the biggest fear we have; the biggest fear is taking the risk to be alive -- the risk to be alive and express what we really are.

The Definition of Awesome

You need to wake up early in the morning, grab your glider, and say to yourself: "Today I will walk thirty miles to those mountains I see on the horizon, hike up them, and do my best to fly home. If I cannot fly home, I will walk home." If this routine becomes too simple, try repeating it several days in a row.

~ Honza Rejmanek

Honza Rejmanek and Dave Hanning will be representing the US for the third time in the 2011 Red Bull X-Alps. They placed 9th in 2007 and 3rd in 2009. The Red Bull X-Alps is held once every two years, and is a 864 kilometer cross-country paragliding race from Salzburg to Monaco.

The first race, held in 2003, was won by Kaspar Henny, a 35 year-old Swiss, who grabbed an early lead and held onto it for the 11 days and 23 hours it took him to complete the course.

Free Will

Free will is a gift you'll never know how to use until you fight for it.

2 hpd

"An extremely effective and grounded magical practice is to identify your big dreams, the missions you really need to accomplish in this lifetime. The test of a big dream comes from asking yourself, 'Will I remember this well on my death bed?' If you have a big dream, you will probably find that to accomplish it will require a minimum of two hours of devoted activity per day."

~ Jonathan Zap
