In Africa, they say there are two hungers, the lesser hunger and the greater hunger. The lesser hunger is for the things that sustain life, the goods and the services, and the money to pay for them, which we all need. The greater hunger is for an answer to the question “why?”, for some some understanding of what that life is for.
~ Charles Handy
Wealth obviously is not the good we seek, for the sole purpose it serves is to provide the means of getting something else. So far as that goes, the ends we have already mentioned [pleasure, virtue and honour] would have a better title to be considered the good, for they are to be desired for their own account.

We are creator beings, every thought feeling and emotion we have programs the universe thereby defining our personal reality. We know ourselves to be actors, how many of us know we are the script writers as well? What do you think? How do you feel? Are you actively creating a reality of love?

A cool friend showed up at the bar last night and we greeted each other like we always do -- "Greetings, Highlander." We talked, connected as human beings and listened to good music, as is our custom, and it was great. Again I was reminded that it's the depth and authenticity of relating to other people on a similar wavelength that is the great treasure of my life. The gold in my heart is spun into being from the magic fortress of allies around me. Before he left he said, "I feel re-energized." The feeling was mutual. For my fellow Highlanders and VS Protagonists, here's a gift from that space...
Joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift.
~ Albert Einstein
The greatest gift is a portion of thyself.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.

Do we on Earth have enough resources and technological understanding to create a society of such abundance that everything we have now could be available without a price-tag, and without the need for submission through employment?
Yes, we do. We have the resources and technology to enable this at a minimum, along with the ability to raise the standard of living so high that people in the future will look back at our civilization now and gawk at how primitive and immature our society was.

Moon lit silver linings
Gentle distant lightning
Journey through the atmosphere
Illuminating cloud and sky
Softly traveled moonbeams
tap the earth below
between outlined clouds
infiltrates the senses
permeates the soul
gift from the heavens above

Every aspect of Western culture needs a new code of ethics - a rational ethics - as a precondition of rebirth. ~ Ayn Rand
Do behold the King Sequoia! Behold! Behold! seems all I can say. Some time ago I left all for Sequoia and have been and am at his feet, fasting and praying for light, for is he not the greatest light in the woods, in the world? Where are such columns of sunshine, tangible, accessible, terrestrialized?
~ John Muir, 1870
The same ethical light that made the Sequoias is in us. Humans can be columns of sunshine too. Come on, everybody. It's time. ~ Will

Preserve what is good
Reform what is in need
Overthrow what is corrupt
Be a visionary dreamer that does life differently
Avoid the seductive undercurrents of other people's expectations and projections
Be about freedom and authentic soul expression
Don't settle for less

Somewhere there's a treasure
that has no value to anyone but you,
and a secret that's meaningless
to everyone except you,
and a frontier that harbors a revelation
only you would know how to exploit.
Why not go in search of those things?

As consort to an obscure but dazzling goddess named "Skayshe," and in honor of tonight's beautiful Buck Moon, I have been instructed to pass on the following recommendation from a man driving a green Honda Element with a witch on a broom dangling from its interior mirror: For the next 47 hours, you are to make bountiful buck naked love to your own sub-atomic particles. If the experience doesn't suck like a levitating hummingbird on magic red sugar water, get on anti-top and lovingly spank your own grinning green anti-bottom. By Sunday afternoon your liberated psyche will be growing like a velvet-covered antler from the forehead of a chevrotain in the rain forests of central Africa, where friendly purple lightning showers you with megajoules of benevolent ions in a sanctuary run by a kind young musical wizard who resembles the positronic offspring of Nikola Tesla and John Denver.

The world has rarely treated happiness as a state worthy of serious respect. And yet, if we see someone who, in spite of life’s adversities, is happy a good deal of the time, we should recognize that we are looking at a spiritual achievement -- and one worth aspiring to.

Autonomous lovers respect their partners need to follow his or her own destiny, to be alone sometimes, to be preoccupied sometimes, not to be thinking about the relationship sometimes, but rather about other vital matters that may not even involve the partner in any direct sense, such as work, personal unfolding and evolution, personal developmental needs. Give this freedom to yourself as well as to the person you love.

Find the courage to ask questions and express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

My first flight in the U.S. is sure to be one of the most memorable experiences in my life, not only for the sheer beauty of the Grand Canyon, but the honor to fly in sacred Native American lands. Thank you Mother Nature and the Hualapai Tribe for making my lifelong dreams come true.

He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has enjoyed the trust of pure women, the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it, whether an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who has always looked for the best in others and given them the best he had; whose memory a benediction.
~ Bessie Anderson Stanley, 1904

I am not ashamed to love you
When this life is over
And nothing else matters
This is what you will remember
That I was here
That I felt for you with all my heart
I know it wasn't what you wanted
But nonetheless I gave my all

Our "I," our ego, our deepest self, is our faculty of awareness, our ability to think. Across a lifetime, our knowledge grows, our convictions may change, our emotions come and go; but that which knows, judges, and feels -- that is the changeless constant within us.

It is not always needful for truth to take a definite shape. It is enough if it hovers about us like a spirit and produces harmony; if it is wafted through the air like the sound of a bell, grave and kindly.

You need to wake up early in the morning, grab your glider, and say to yourself: "Today I will walk thirty miles to those mountains I see on the horizon, hike up them, and do my best to fly home. If I cannot fly home, I will walk home." If this routine becomes too simple, try repeating it several days in a row.
~ Honza Rejmanek
Honza Rejmanek and Dave Hanning will be representing the US for the third time in the 2011 Red Bull X-Alps. They placed 9th in 2007 and 3rd in 2009. The Red Bull X-Alps is held once every two years, and is a 864 kilometer cross-country paragliding race from Salzburg to Monaco.
The first race, held in 2003, was won by Kaspar Henny, a 35 year-old Swiss, who grabbed an early lead and held onto it for the 11 days and 23 hours it took him to complete the course.

"An extremely effective and grounded magical practice is to identify your big dreams, the missions you really need to accomplish in this lifetime. The test of a big dream comes from asking yourself, 'Will I remember this well on my death bed?' If you have a big dream, you will probably find that to accomplish it will require a minimum of two hours of devoted activity per day."
~ Jonathan Zap
