Apocalypse ~ The Lifting of the Veil
I Am Nothing

I've gone from hyper-awareness to feeling completely insignificant. Smaller than a grain of sand within billions of years of time and space. My life might matter but still feels like nothing. Peak oil. Peak population. Peak resource depletion. Peak devastation. Here am I in an inperceptible corner of universe, seeing through eyes of peak existential fatigue.
Covenant

No heaven will embrace you
No harbour keeps you safe
Your comrades will desert you
No tower reaches heaven
No fortress stands to last
Your desires makes you weak
No science will be mastered
No truth is absolute
Your children won't lament you
No wisdom can be trusted
No glory lasts forever
Our wishes won't be granted
Like torches in the aeon flow
Even suns flicker and die
Forgotten as the ages grow
Eternity is not for you
~ Covenant
Irritating Anomaly
Heads I win, tails you loose.

I keep seeing instances of writing in which the author uses the word "loose" instead of "lose." Loose is an adjective, lose is a verb. You don't loose your job or your mind. You lose it. Similarly, it is not lose change in your pocket. It's loose change. It's not a big deal, but it's careless. Please stop making this mistake. It's turning me every which way but lose.

If the elevator tries to bring you down... go crazy. ~ Prince

It comes as a voice I can hear. It comes as light reflected from a brilliant Moon.
The Sun is our Father. The Earth is our Mother. For too long we have betrayed them.
Our purpose is to discover ourselves. The answer is in the stars. We are meant to go there, as the bringer of life, to bring the secret back to its source.
Does the world make you feel like a freak? Is it a crime to be unique? We're going to California to witness the end of the world. See you in 2012.

A Star Is Born

I had a flash of insight this morning about my blogspot name "verticalsurfer" and suddenly realized it should be "verticalsearcher," instead, which is a highly more appropriate brand name for my soul. I did a quick search and found no one had it yet, so I bought it and locked it down private and certified for the next ten years. I learned an important lesson this past Sunday about the value of my ideas, and I have proof now that they are worth money. Now that I am the owner of my intellectual property, I intend to build an empire of thought. Thank you to my unknown teacher. You taught me the answer to the ultimate question. Farewell to my surfing. Let the searching begin.

The Enigma

I'm proud of myself for having the courage to live a life that went nowhere, but I should have traded some of that courage for better judgment. I used to think I was an old soul, that maybe I had lived past lives. I don't think that anymore. I'm not necessarily young or old, just unique, but no more unique than anyone else. I am my own ghost, haunted by myself. I wonder why a smart guy like me chose the path of a fool.

The Big Log
The greatest words and the greatest music stand the test of time.
My love is in league with the freeway
Its passion will ride, as the cities fly by
And the tail-lights dissolve, in the coming of night
And the questions in thousands take flight
My love is a-miles in the waiting
The eyes that just stare, and the glance at the clock
And the secret that burns, and the pain that grows dark
And it's you once again
Leading me on - leading me down the road
Driving beyond - driving me down the road
My love is exceedingly vivid
Red-eyed and fevered with the hum of the miles
Distance and longing, my thoughts do provide
Should I rest for a while at the side
Your love is cradled in knowing
Eyes in the mirror, still expecting they'll come
Sensing too well when the journey is done
There is no turning back - no
There is no turning back - on the run
My love is in league with the freeway
Oh the freeway, and the coming of night-time
My love is in league with the freeway
My love is in league with the freeway
Its passion will ride, as the cities fly by
And the tail-lights dissolve, in the coming of night
And the questions in thousands take flight
My love is a-miles in the waiting

My love is in league with the freeway

Trains > Planes
Why can't something like this be the next great public works project of our country? If we can sink billions into banks and wars, I don't see why we can't sink billions into training people to build, maintain, and operate an entirely new mass transit system that connects every major city in America.
At this speed I could travel from Seattle to Miami in ten hours -- no layovers, no chintzy bags of mixed nuts, no breathing stale air while cramped in a winged Pringles can, and no bitchy stewardesses. Instead, just attractive and accommodating rail attendants who enjoy mingling with passengers in the bar car/disco-tech... Ha, ha.

All aboard!

The white man says there is freedom and justice for all. We have had "freedom and justice," and that is why we have been almost exterminated. We shall not forget this.
~ From the 1927 Grand Council of American Indians
*************************************************************************
Traditional people of Indian nations have interpreted the two roads that face the light-skinned race as the road to technology and the road to spirituality. We feel that the road to technology.... has led modern society to a damaged and seared earth. Could it be that the road to technology represents a rush to destruction, and that the road to spirituality represents the slower path that the traditional native people have traveled and are now seeking again? The earth is not scorched on this trail. The grass is still growing there.
~ William Commanda, Mamiwinini, Canada, 1991, The Sacred Tree
Iroquois
Gandhi
Malcolm X
If you're not ready to die for it, put the word 'freedom' out of your vocabulary.
I'm for truth, no matter who tells it. I'm for justice, no matter who it's for or against.
Power in defense of freedom is greater than power in behalf of tyranny and oppression, because power, real power, comes from our conviction which produces action, uncompromising action.

Man Also Rises

Compared to the universe, the Earth is infinitely small. The sum total of all our knowledge probably is too. Our planet has many times endured cataclysms. Yet life persists. So shall we.
"Man Also Rises" is the name of the painting by Frank O' Conner, seen here on the cover of one of my favorite books.

This Above All
This above all: to thine own self be true and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.
~ Shakespeare
~ Shakespeare
Tiw's Day

May you triumph.
Medusa

The profoundest instinct in man is to war against the truth; that is, against the Real. He shuns facts from his infancy. His life is a perpetual evasion. Miracle, chimera and to-morrow keep him alive. He lives on fiction and myth. It is the Lie that makes him free. Animals alone are given the privilege of lifting the veil of Isis; men dare not. The animal, awake, has no fictional escape from the Real because he has no imagination. Man, awake, is compelled to seek a perpetual escape into Hope, Belief, Fable, Art, God, Socialism, Immortality, Alcohol, Love. From Medusa-Truth he makes an appeal to Maya-Lie.

Civil Disobedience

Laws control the lesser man. Right conduct controls the greater one.
~ Chinese Proverb
No radical change on the plane of history is possible without crime.
~ Hermann Keyserling
When leaders act contrary to conscience, we must act contrary to leaders.
~ Veterans Fast for Life
Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide against your conviction is to be an unqualified and excusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let men label you as they may.
~ Mark Twain
You're not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can't face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who says it. ~ Malcolm X
Integrity has no need of rules. ~ Albert Camus
As long as the world shall last there will be wrongs, and if no man objected and no man rebelled, those wrongs would last forever.
~ Clarence Darrow
I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.
~ Robert A. Heinlein, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
Ordinarily, a person leaving a courtroom with a conviction behind him would wear a somber face. But I left with a smile. I knew that I was a convicted criminal, but I was proud of my crime.
~ Martin Luther King, Jr., March 22, 1956
Slaves of Pain
A tribute to a time before there was so much bullshit. Horns, my Brothers. No matter what happens, I love you guys, and I always will.
